Match Today: Paris Saint-Germain vs Reims 10-08-2022 Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain will be keen to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they face Stade de Reims at Stade de la Sainte-Auguste II on Saturday night.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are yet to face defeat in the 2022-23 season and at least on a domestic level, they seem unstoppable. They have only lost two points in their first nine Ligue 1 matches and will be sure to keep this race going against Stade de Reims. Both sides enter the match with mixed fortunes.

Reims is currently 17th in the league and has yet to win at home this season. On the other hand, PSG have won all five of their away matches and will have every reason to approach the next game with confidence, and what's more, Christophe Galtier's side drew 1-1 in the middle of the week away to Benfica. They will be keen to draw on the lessons learned from the draw and perhaps test some new tactics ahead of next week's reverse game.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Reims

Aside from the bad level, one of the main weaknesses of Oscar Garcia's side is their temperament.

Reims has sent players off in six of his nine league games this season, a poor statistic by all accounts. Juna Eto'o was the latest culprit, receiving orders to march against Troy last weekend. Reducing the number of players to ten cost his team dear as the equalizer in the 90th minute made them content with a 2-2 draw.

While the Japanese striker will be watching from the sidelines, Reims will welcome the return of Maxime Bossi, Marshall Monetsi and Dio Lubi who have all served their suspensions. Meanwhile, Thomas Phuket and Kage Serhuis are still recovering from injuries and will miss the match as well. For better or worse, Garcia is likely to keep faith in his 3-4-1-2 squad into the night. Yehvan Diouf is supposed to start in goal behind three defenders from Andrew Gravelon, Emmanuel Agbado and Younes Abdelhamid.

Marshall Monizzi and Jeans Cajost will act as a midfield pivot against the pair Marco Verratti and Vitina. Duel can help in one way or another in determining the speed at which the match is played. Maxime Bossi and Bradley Loko will start out as winger back, and dip deep to form a five on defense. Kamori Doumbia will play the number 10 role and will appear behind the second leaders of Alexis Phillips and Folarin Balogun.

Reims vs Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain-Reims match Lionel Messi was left out of the Benfica match due to exhaustion and could get some rest this weekend.

With intense and fast matches progressing until the World Cup, PSG cannot afford the star playmaker. Christophe Galtier is likely to keep his faith in their 3-4-3 squad that brought them so much success. Gianluigi Donnarumma will start in goal behind the defense of Danilo Pereira, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos.

The loss on that night will be only the second time that Reims has lost five matches in the same round against the same Ligue 1 rival without scoring. The last six against the French Ligue 1 champions.

Reims has not kept a clean sheet in Ligue 1 for 15 matches so far. The last time they managed to do so was against Montpellier in April. Winning the night would see PSG clock run over 28 minutes from their first 10 matches in Ligue 1. Only two other teams have achieved the same or better in Ligue 1 this century, and both went on to win the title. Reims is the only team at the bottom of the seventh Ligue 1 to have scored more than 10 goals in the tenth round.

Paris Saint-Germain have conceded 28 times this season, the most of any team in Ligue 1. Six players have been sent off from Reims this season, more than any other team in Ligue 1.
