Match Today: Barcelona vs Celta Vigo 09-10-2022 La Liga
Barcelona will look to recover from their Champions League disappointment when they host Celta Vigo La Liga at Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona have been in great form in La Liga this season and boast an almost perfect domestic record. The Catalan giants have won six consecutive league matches since their draw with Rayo Vallecano at the weekend. They have kept five clean sheets in their last five matches and have found the net 19 times this season.
Robert Lewandowski's first-half goal proved the difference as Barcelona beat lowly RCD Mallorca 1-0 last weekend. Meanwhile, Real Madrid suddenly lost points against ten-man Osasuna, a result that saw Barcelona return to the top of the table for the first time since Quique Setién was in charge, 844 days ago to be exact, albeit with a goal difference.
As they cemented their dominance in the league, successive Champions League setbacks against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan put their European ambitions in jeopardy. Hakan Calhanoglu's long-range shot was enough to end Barcelona's defeat at the San Siro. Xavi Hernandez's men will be gnawing a bit for revenge when Inter Milan take a trip to the Camp Nou for the reverse game. But first, Barcelona has some household chores to take care of with a visit to Celta Vigo.
Barcelona vs Celta Vigo
They started the season with a 2-2 draw with Espanyol, then suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat by Real Madrid, before scoring two consecutive victories over Girona and Cadiz with clean sheets.
This was followed by crushing defeats at the hands of Atletico Madrid and Valencia. But Celta Vigo were impressed by upsetting high-flyer Real Betis last time. Jules Conde and Ronald Araujo both missed out on the next few weeks after picking up muscle injuries during the recent international break.
To make matters worse, Andreas Christensen sustained a ligament injury against Inter and is expected to miss the rest of October.
Frank Casey joined the former in the treatment room after sustaining a hamstring injury in a Champions League match. So he is not on the team list.
Celta Vigo vs Barcelona
Barcelona have won the last six La Liga matches and kept five clean sheets in the last five consecutive La Liga matches.
The hosts are unbeaten in 18 of their last 20 home matches against Celta Vigo in all competitions. However, it would be foolish for Barcelona to ignore Celta Vigo this weekend, having won only two of their past five meetings with Celta.
Barcelona haven't won back-to-back games against Celta Vigo since doing the duo in the 2013/14 season when Xavi was still in the squad. The visiting team has lost three of its last four away matches. Ansu pushes Fati to go back to the start.
Rafinha is likely to settle for a place on the bench, paving the way for Fati to return to the side and form a Barcelona attacking hat-trick alongside Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski remains Barcelona's most potent threat and enters Sunday's competition looking to add nine league goals this season.
Elsewhere in defense, Marcos Alonso is set to withdraw from the team that started the midweek game.
Young Alejandro Baldi is likely to play the left-back position, while Sergi Roberto will keep his place in the opposite flank. Unlike his counterpart in Barcelona, Celta Vigo coach, Eduardo Codet, has practically a clean bill of health. He has no first-team injury issues to deal with while taking a full week off before this game.
