Match Today: Manchester City vs Copenhagen 10-11-2022 UEFA Champions League
Manchester City will look to maintain their momentum when they travel to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Manchester City have already earned nine points from their first three Champions League games, and a victory over Copenhagen would almost guarantee their entry to the next stage. Pep Guardiola's men have shown no mercy to their opponents, and no kind of limitation has gotten them into trouble this time around. Erling Haaland's arrival had already pushed the level up for them.
And with each passing match, they will become more and more vengeful in their quest to crown their first Champions League title. With Erling Haaland possibly missing from the starting line-up, it is time for Julian Alvarez to start facing a decent challenge. The Argentine striker did not have much acquaintance with this campaign.
This match could be the perfect platform for Alvarez to engage in some healthy competition with the Norwegian striker.
Manchester City vs Copenhagen
Copenhagen can't help but call on Manchester City to rest some of its key players so they can display their normal game at home.
The English champions humiliated them 5-0 last time, and a similar result can only dilute their chances of snatching a place in the Europa League. The Danish team lost its match against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. But a draw with beleaguered Sevilla between the two defeats could provide a relief for them. Meanwhile, Manchester City's relentless pursuit of their third successive Premier League title saw them edge Southampton 4-0.
But Arsenal's victory over Liverpool means the defending champions remain one point behind the league leaders. With matches appearing so intense and fast, Pep Guardiola may sign up for some of his reserve players. And with a trip to Liverpool on the horizon, the Manchester City manager will need his best players renewed and cohesive. Copenhagen won't imagine a win, but a good defensive performance will keep their hopes alive in third place in Group G.
Marko Stamenic had a tough game last week, and will be back again in an effort to control the proceedings. Lucas Lirager and Isaac Bergmann will help Johansson Stamenic forge a stable partnership in midfield.
Copenhagen vs Manchester City
Copenhagen hosted the current champions of England in 2008/09 in the UEFA Cup. The match ended 2-2. Manchester City need to defeat Copenhagen by five more goals to improve their record against one opponent in one season.
Their previous best was against Shakhtar Donetsk, where they crushed them 9-0 in a two-way match. The English clubs were not so lucky in Denmark as Liverpool and Leicester City tied their matches in that country. The onus is on Manchester City to jinx this time.
Manchester City's recent visit to Denmark was not a happy ending as they lost to Aalborg BK in the UEFA Cup in 2008/09. Kyle Walker and Calvin Phillips are conspicuously absent, while John Stones apparently won't be available either. Guardiola is likely to introduce some new faces considering the draw with Liverpool.
Ederson is unlikely to rest and will look to keep another clean sheet. Nathan Ake should partner Manuel Akanji at the heart of Manchester City's defence. Sergio Gomez put in a great performance on Sunday against Southampton and deserves a place as a left-back.
