European clubs keeping track of Montpellier’s Joris Chotard

According to a report from L'Équipe, Joris Chotard (23) could leave his formative club Montpellier HSC during the upcoming transfer window.

The midfielder who represented France at the Olympic Games in Paris last summer appeared ready to leave the south of France before the start of this season. Towards the end of the 2023/2024 season, it became increasingly clear that Chotard was ready to take the next step in his career.

This was a situation that suited Montpellier as they were in desperate need of extra cash and Chotard's price only seemed to rise as he helped France reach the Olympic finals. Wolfsburg approached with a bid of around €9 million, but this was rejected on the assumption that the Bundesliga would return with an improved offer.

Wolfsburg did not return and when the transfer window closed, Chotard and Montpellier were stuck in a situation that did not suit either side. Chotard is back on the market and L'Équipe writes that the club will accept an offer of at least €6 million.

There has been interest from the Bundesliga and also La Liga, with rivals Sevilla and Real Betis both inquiring with a view to securing the midfielder's signature in the summer. For Montpellier, who are bottom of the table, a transfer would certainly help the club reinvest in their squad.
