Logan Paul vs Conor McGregor boxing fight is result of seven-year build that started before YouTuber’s boxing debut

Logan Paul vowed to 'create content' with Conor McGregor for seven years before the UFC legend claimed he agreed to fight him.

Earlier this week, McGregor stunned fight fans when he claimed he had agreed to an exhibition boxing match with older brother Paul to take place in India next year. The fight is far from official, but talks are in full swing and it hasn't been ruled out yet.

And it seems Paul has been calling for such a fight long before he ever strapped on a pair of boxing gloves. Both he and his brother Jake Paul were the first famous YouTubers before fighting, and each set their sights on the former two-weight UFC champion.

Logan Paul wanted to 'create content' with Conor McGregor in 2017

In 2017, Jake and Logan Paul were two of the biggest and most divisive vloggers on YouTube. The siblings made a 20-minute video every day detailing their lives, which racked up millions of views and generated huge revenue.

In the August 27 version of his vlog series, Logan introduced fans to a secret interest in fighting that he has maintained since his high school wrestling days. He was one of the top competitors in the famously competitive state of Ohio and regularly competed in high-level competitions.

He told viewers that he initially wanted to parlay that wrestling experience into becoming an MMA fighter before finding fame and fortune on social media. And he noted that it would be a dream come true to one day be “satisfied” with Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fighting that night.

He was set to share the ring with Mayweather in an exhibition fight and now appears to be heading for a match with McGregor. In the vlog he said of the pair: “You athletes are legends, I have the utmost respect for you both.

“Mayweather, congratulations, 50-0, bro, you're going down, you're making history bro. McGregor, stepping out of your comfort zone to take up boxing when you're an MMA fighter, that's unheard of, man. History was made tonight.

“That said, you athletes are both straight-up Mavericks… Congratulations guys, I hope to one day create a piece of content with you, Floyd Mayweather or Conor McGregor.”

Logan Paul called up Conor McGregor for a fight the following summer

A year later, the Paul brothers had entered into a feud with British YouTube stars KSI and Deji, essentially their British social media equivalents. It led to a pair of boxing fights at the Manchester Arena, with Jake stopping Deji before Logan fought to a draw against KSI.

But what's interesting now is an interview the brothers gave to TMZ while at the airport on their way to Britain. Noting that he eventually wanted to get into the octagon, Logan said: “I want to fight a UFC fighter, I've been wrestling all my life.

“There's no reason why I can't do that, I've literally been doing athletics my whole life, Dana White, if you're watching this, buddy, pick me a fighter, dude. End of next year [2019]I will weigh about 190 pounds.” Jake then noted that his brother is “more of an MMA fighter anyway.”

And when it came to potential opponents, after he claimed he would beat up then-UFC fighter CM Punk, the topic turned to McGregor. Jake paused for a moment before adding, “I think it would be great to see one of us fight McGregor.”

Logan joked “that's what I said, man, 'cause we're fat,” before Jake added, “If that Floyd thing happened…” However, Logan noted that they had to “prove themselves” before ever being put in a cage could walk. or call the Irishman.

Now Logan Paul and Conor McGregor are in talks for a showdown worth over $100 million

And it appears the elder Paul, with six years of experience under his belt, including eight tough rounds of his own with Mayweather, is about to get his wish. On Tuesday, McGregor told fans he plans to meet Paul before returning to the octagon.

In a viral tweet, he wrote: “The rumors of a fight with Topurio are false. I have made tentative arrangements with the Ambani family to meet Logan Paul at a boxing exhibition in India. I agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”

He has followed this up with claims that the fight will top his fight with Mayweather and earn him another career-high payout, telling fans: “TKO Group! UFC vs. WWE. There are levels to this, a big sloppy novice will figure it out! TKO KING TITLE

Bloody Elbow understands that Paul has been in talks for the fight, which was confirmed by his best friend Mike Majlak in an interview with Daily Maily Sport. However, there are still many hurdles to overcome, including the involvement of the UFC.
