Sydney Sweeney undergoes a major transformation to play a legendary world champion boxer.
Women's boxing icon Christy Martin will be the subject of a major biopic, with A-Lister Sweeney joining to portray her in the story. And after receiving a barrage of hateful comments about her appearance, the actress has literally hit back with a photo showing off her grueling workout regime.
The film is currently in post-production, but details about its release or even a name are being kept under wraps by the producers. However, Sweeney has been spotted at several fighting events and is known to be a fan of both boxing and the UFC.
Sydney Sweeney shows off an intense boxing training schedule
After a week of abuse online following paparazzi photos of her in a bikini, Sydney Sweeney decided to show how hard she has been working on her new film. The 27-year-old shared a slideshow of the rude messages, before showing off her training camp for the film.
She seems to take the movie as seriously as a fighter would take a big fight, going through all the necessary training. She is seen in the series of photos shared on Instagram at the gym, undergoing strength exercises and practicing her choreography for the fight scenes.
Sweeney was also seen hitting the heavy bag and fixing her gloves as she got comfortable with the inside of the ring. The actress is known to attend fighting events, and last year she was seen at UFC 288 during Aljamain Sterling's bantamweight title defense against Henry Cejudo.
Sydney Sweeney will play Christy Martin in a biopic
Little is known about the upcoming film, but Sweeney had to undergo a dramatic change to become Martin. The boxing icon competed 59 times before the days when Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano were making millions as female fighters.
She won WBC gold in 2009 after a long career that included legendary fights with Deirdre Gogarty, Holly Holm and Laila Ali. Now she will be the subject of a film starring one of the world's most recognizable actors.

“Over the past few months, I have been delving into training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman – a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” Sweeney wrote on Instagram earlier this year.
“Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength and hope, and I am honored to walk in her shoes and share her powerful story with all of you.”
