British newspaper The Guardian has released its list of the 100 best footballers of the year.
The Guardian Sports has selected the 10 most outstanding footballers of the year, led by Ballon d'Or winner Rodri and Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. It is striking that the top 10 includes an impressive presence of 10 Spaniards.
10. Kylian Mbappe
The French forward joined Real Madrid this summer, ending years of speculation over his future at PSG. Although Real Madrid's number 9 has been criticized for not putting up stunning numbers this season, he has scored crucial goals and secured the European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup titles for Los Blancos.
9. Dani Carvajal
The right back had a historic year, winning five trophies with Real Madrid and the European Championship with Spain. Carvajal played a crucial role in Spain's qualification and victory, establishing himself as a defensive strongman. He also scored his first international goal in Spain's victory against Croatia, further cementing his importance.
8. Florian Wirtz
The German midfielder had an exceptional season at Bayer Leverkusen and played a key role in a record season under Xabi Alonso. Wirtz was instrumental in securing the German Super Cup, the German Cup and the Bundesliga title. His eleven goals contributed significantly to Leverkusen's unbeaten run.
7. Lautaro Martinez
The Inter Milan captain and striker had a phenomenal year and was recognized as the club's best player of the season. Martínez led his team to victories in the Italian Super Cup, Serie A and the Copa América. He also emerged as top scorer in both the league (24 goals) and the Copa América (5 goals).
6. Harry Kane
The England captain and Bayern Munich forward continued his prolific form, scoring 44 goals in 45 appearances for the German club. Kane also set a record by scoring 50 goals in fewest games. His stellar performances extended to the international stage, leading England to the European Championship finals and demonstrating his endless quality.
5. Judas Bellingham
The English midfielder adapted seamlessly to Carlo Ancelotti's system at Real Madrid. Although his goalscoring streak has declined compared to his debut season, Bellingham has remained a key orchestrator of Madrid's play in defense and attack. He also excelled with England, helping the team finish second at the European Championship.
4. Lamine Yamal
The 17-year-old Spanish prodigy has shown extraordinary talent both at La Masia and on the international stage. The winger played a key role in Spain's victory at the European Championship, scoring his first goal in a major tournament. Although Barcelona did not secure any titles this year, his place among the elite is undeniable.
3. Erling Haaland
The Norwegian striker continues to break goalscoring records. Although his numbers this season are down from previous highs, Haaland still leads the Premier League scoring charts. Despite Manchester City's problems, he has taken responsibility for taking the team forward.
2. Vinicius Junior
The Brazilian winger was one of the leading contenders for the Ballon d'Or, which was ultimately claimed by Rodri. However, he was recognized by FIFA as the best. Vinicius played a crucial role in all of Real Madrid's title wins this year. His only shortcoming was a disappointing performance with Brazil at international level.
1. Rodri
The Spanish midfielder was the cornerstone of Manchester City's historic season, contributing to their dominance in domestic and international competitions. He also played a crucial role in Spain's European Championship victory. Although his Ballon d'Or victory sparked debate about Vinicius' merits, Rodri's superlative effort silenced any doubts about his place at the top of world football.
