Atletico Madrid chief predicts golden future at Barcelona

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona will conclude the 2024 season with a battle for La Liga supremacy.

Los Rojiblancos are chasing a first league victory at Barcelona since 2006 in addition to first place in the table.

The visitors have struggled in Catalonia but head to Catalonia in good form, with 11 consecutive wins in all competitions.

However, the weight of history rests on their shoulders, with top spot in La Liga before the start of 2025 also on the agenda, with only goal difference separating the teams before kick-off.

Club president Enrique Cerezo gave his views on the opponents in a wide-ranging interview with Diario Sport, and the 76-year-old believes La Blaugrana have a bright future ahead of them.

“Barca have the youngest team in Europe, they have great players and a bright future,” he said.

“I really love Pedri and Gavi very much. I really like everyone in the team, from the goalkeeper to the strikers. I like Lewandowski a lot. They are great players.”

A win for Atletico Madrid will push them above Barcelona at the summit before the start of 2025, but a draw will keep them level.

A draw would see Real Madrid lift both teams to No. 1 if they win their final match of 2024.
