Real Madrid wants to end 2024 on a high when it plays against Sevilla on Sunday afternoon. After winning the Intercontinental Cup during the week, a win at the Santiago Bernabeu would at least move them up to second place, while Barcelona and Atletico Madrid faced off on Saturday evening.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed ahead of the match (via Diario AS) that he will have Ferland Mendy at his disposal after missing Real Madrid's last three games. He also provided an update on David Alaba's situation.
'Mendy has recovered and he is available for tomorrow. Alaba is also doing part of the training, he will return with the group on the 30th and I think he will be available in mid-January.”
Ancelotti also spoke about Real Madrid's full-back situation, which has been the subject of criticism in recent weeks.
“The two full-backs have done very well, both Lucas Vazquez and Fran Garcia. They have played many matches and contributed to the team. I don't think I'll put Valverde there unless it's an emergency. And we are testing Asencio, who can do it due to his characteristics, albeit from a more defensive than offensive profile.”
