Neymar sends optimistic message as he heads back to Brazil

The Al Hilal star has endured an injury-plagued 2024, struggling to return from a knee ligament injury suffered on international duty.

Neymar's time in Saudi Arabia has not gone to plan. Inked in a deal worth around $100 million from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, the Brazilian forward suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty just months later.

A year later, he has still made just seven league appearances for Al Hilal. But during his final workout before the festivities, he posted an optimistic message on social media.

“Good vibes during the last training before Christmas. A few days, but it's good to calm the mind, see family and friends,” with emojis of a red heart and a Brazilian flag.

The Saudi Pro League is on a winter break, meaning Neymar's Al Hilal will not return to action until January 7. He has two weeks off before taking on Al Ittihad in the quarter-finals of the King Cup of Champions.

Could Neymar leave Al Hilal this winter?

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury suffered in October 2023 has limited Neymar's appearances in Saudi Arabia to just a handful of appearances. He has suffered a series of setbacks during his recovery, prompting suggestions that Al Hilal could look to limit losses on the player. Not only does he earn a huge salary, but he also takes up one of the team's international player spots.

There is talk of a move to Inter Miami, where he could be reunited with the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. A return to Brazil has also been mentioned as a potential landing spot, although a significant pay cut would be required to make this feasible.

Botafogo president Durcesio Mello recently spoke about Neymar's talent, but admitted his questionable fitness would prevent him from making a move for the Brazilian.

Mello said: “God forbid. Neymar is one of the greatest players I have ever seen play. He is on the same level as Messi and much better than Cristiano Ronaldo, but he ruined his career, which culminated in this injury that lasted just over a year. injured again.”
