Conor McGregor slams ‘woeful’ Tom Aspinall in a deleted tweet as he advises Jon Jones ahead of potential matchup

After defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, Jon Jones could unify the title against Tom Aspinall, and bizarrely Conor McGregor has done his part to make the match.

Jon Jones once again showed why he is considered the greatest mixed martial artist of all time as he easily dispatched Stipe Miocic in the UFC 309 main event last Saturday with a third-round finish.

'Bones' caused controversy among the fanbase when he admitted before his fight that he is unlikely to fight interim champion Tom Aspinall in a title unification bout, and instead called for a fight against Alex Pereira .

Tom Aspinall claims Jon Jones can't sleep at night knowing Aspinall could beat him

Despite Jones' adamant belief that he will not fight the Brit, UFC CEO Dana White stuck to his guns after UFC 309, stating that he would not accept a fight between Jones and Pereira and that Jones should next defend against Aspinall.

After the main event of UFC 309, Aspinall briefly met with UFC top brass and hinted that there would be “big news” following successful talks.

Although Jones pretends not to be interested in a fight against Aspinall, the interim champion believes 'Bones is scared of the potential matchup and can't sleep at night' knowing Aspinall could beat him.

“He hates people saying I can beat him. He can't sleep at night, all these things, he keeps saying it over and over again, that he doesn't care about me and that he is above me, this is all projecting man. Deep down he knows,” Aspinall said on the Ariel Helwani Show.

Conor McGregor slams Tom Aspinall as he gives advice to Jon Jones

The 31-year-old interim champion admitted that he thinks one of the reasons Jones is hesitant to fight him is because there isn't much tape on Aspinall in the cage.

“One of Jon Jones' biggest advantages over anyone else, he's said in multiple interviews over the years, is that he's a band researcher, like me, a huge band researcher.

“He doesn't have a chance to do that with me because my average fight time is the shortest in UFC history at 2 minutes and 2 seconds over 10 fights, and that's something that keeps him up at night. I'm a big question mark for him.

There's almost no footage of me other than me bouncing people's heads off the canvas and him having no idea what to prepare for,” Aspinall continued.

Based on Aspinall's comments, former UFC two-weight world champion Conor McGregor gave the Brit a harsh critique and offered Jones some advice for their potential upcoming fight.

“Those images of him looking sad against Rico Verhoeven are good images to watch for Jon. I'm warming up to this matchup, I think it has to happen,” McGregor said in a now-deleted tweet on X.

Former Glory kickboxing world champion Rico Verhoeven is a regular in Aspinall's incredible heavyweight supercamp, and the two are regularly featured as sparring partners on Aspinall's YouTube channel.
