An impatient Ange Postecoglou again defended Tottenham's approach, saying he would never change despite scoring six goals to Liverpool at home.
Injury-hit Spurs were beaten 6-3 by Liverpool in a chaotic clash in north London. It is only the second time in Premier League history that the club have conceded six at home, leaving them in 11th place at Christmas.
Spurs' tactics were criticized after the match, with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher saying: “No one has ever won anything like that”.
Postecoglou, who defended his philosophy in midweek after Spurs threatened to throw away a three-goal lead against Manchester United, was unhappy to be asked more questions about his approach a few days later.
“I have been very patient over the past 18 months, answering the same questions over and over again,” Postecoglou said. “If people want me to change my approach, that won't change.
“We do it for a reason, we do it because we think it will help us be successful.”
Spurs, unable to make any changes from midweek, were forced to field a makeshift foursome with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven still out and Destiny Udogie, returning to the bench, not deemed fit enough to to play.
Eighteen-year-old midfielder Archie Gray played at centre-back alongside reserves Radu Dragusin and Djed Spence, who many thought would leave at left-back this summer, with substitute Fraser Forster in goal.
Despite seven players being unavailable, Spurs still played at full throttle against the Premier League leaders and were punished with a ruthless performance from Arne Slot's side.
“If people don't understand the circumstances we're in, the challenges we have from a team and squad perspective, which are as obvious as I want to make them now, I get the feeling people think I'm just need to flip the switch.” and change and somehow that would make us a different team.
But it is what it is, I'm staying focused on trying to build this team into the team we want. In the meantime, we will have to accept that there will be challenges along the way. .”
Carragher: No one has ever won anything playing this way!
Jamie Carragher questioned Postecoglou's uncompromising approach in the face of such a massive injury crisis and suggested he would gain nothing from such a situation.
“Not that I expect Tottenham to win the Premier League, but no one has ever won anything like that,” the Sky Sports pundit said after the match.
“It was almost Kevin Keegan-esque. The other team I could associate myself with was almost Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, where it was just end-to-end, 6-3, 5-4, and at the end of that they were just come a little short.
“You have to respect the opposition, you have to respect the defensive side of the game.”
He added: “I understand the idea. It's not about a playing style. When everyone is fully fit and he wants to do things slightly differently, every manager who comes in has a slightly different way of doing things. “
“You have to have something that's a little bit different, that makes you special, that gets you starting in Australia and going to the Premier League. It's a brilliant journey he's been on, and he has a way of doing that.”
“But when you have your best team, not when you are completely down to earth.”
