Atletico Madrid to make January transfer decision on forgotten star

Atletico Madrid will start 2025 as La Liga leaders after a fantastic end to 2024.

Despite the prospect of competing on three fronts in the second half of the season, the club will not be spending much money in the January transfer window.

Diego Simeone will have a limited budget to work with, but the Argentinian has no plans to make any major changes.

If possible, the club will look to make a number of squad sales to reduce the wage bill after a high-spending summer in the capital.

The latest reports from Diario AS indicate that Thomas Lemar could move on with the Frenchman playing just six minutes of league action since returning from an Achilles injury.

With a contract running until 2027, Atletico Madrid are certainly open to moving him, but Simeone will not force the issue.

However, any potential sale could mean a big loss on the €72 million Atletico Madrid paid AS Monaco for him in 2018, with a current value of around €7 million.
