Real Madrid have turned things around in the past month and if they win their match against Atletico Madrid they will head to Saudi Arabia in the Spanish Super Cup at the top of La Liga. However, concerns about Carlo Ancelotti's job security were very real.
As recently revealed by Carlo Ancelotti, that turning point can be traced back to a team conversation they had after the defeat to AC Milan, when they were laying the foundations for their revival. One of the key principles was simply to run harder and more, but Ancelotti has also encouraged his stars individually to take control of that situation.
Although it was the Italian manager who initiated the team talk, Relevo said it was mainly the players who spoke, particularly Luka Modric who rallied around Ancelotti. However, the same outlet notes that his job was in serious danger: sporting director Santiago Solari was advised to prepare to take over as manager in case Real Madrid decided to fire Ancelotti.
It would not be the first time that Solari has found himself in a difficult situation replacing Julen Lopetegui in the 2017/18 season. However, the Argentine did not make it past February, when Zinedine Zidane returned for a second spell.
