Robert Whittaker teases his surprising next move as he considers a big career change

After an extremely brutal loss to Khamzat Chimaev last October, Robert Whittaker is considering a major change in his career.

Robert Whittaker was once again just one win away from another middleweight title, but then he ran into Khamzat Chimaev.

After his loss to 'Borz', the former middleweight champion now finds himself in an unfortunate position in the 185-pound rankings.

Robert Whittaker teases a move to light heavyweight

With a win over the Chechen, 'The Reaper' would likely have secured a title shot and a rematch with Dricus Du Plessis.

Despite Chimaev's career-best win, the UFC instead selected Sean Strickland for the next middleweight title, which was a big surprise to fans.

Following his loss, Whittaker is now considering a move to the light heavyweight division in search of another UFC title. The 34-year-old has never fought above middleweight.

“I wouldn't go down to welterweight, I can't go down. I'm still toying with the idea of moving up to light heavyweight, dude,” Whittaker revealed on the MMArcade Podcast.

“No, it's like, I'm a big guy, way bigger than people think I am. Yeah, I don't know, it's Christmas, I don't want stressful questions,” Whittaker joked.

Not exactly considered a big middleweight, Whittaker stands at 6-foot-4 and has a reach of 70 feet.

Robert Whittaker comments on the Alex Pereira and Khamzat Chimaev rumors

With Chimaev missing out on the middleweight title despite continually becoming one of the promotion's biggest stars, rumors have recently surfaced that he could potentially move up to 205 pounds himself.

Current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira recently teased that he will not defend his title against perennial contender Magomed Anklaev, which has led to rumors of a fight against Chimaev.

“I saw a rumor that Chimaev could fight Pereira for the title, I saw that. Just imagine that, just imagine that. Chimaev (wins), easily. But not easy, Chimaev. Unless the heavyweight's power changes as a dynamic that Chimaev can't handle, but Chimaev will get the takedown.

“Hypothetically, let's say Chimaev is gassed, Pereira is not. He could fall asleep, dead tired, guys have been doing it all their lives, he'll kill Chimaev in stand-up,” Whittaker predicted.
