Inter 2-0 Como: Title-chasing Nerazzurri ease past lowly visitors

Inter kept pace with the leaders at the Serie A summit with second-half goals from Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram to earn them a 2-0 win over Como at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri's victory moved them to 37 points in the standings, three points behind leaders Atalanta with the luxury of a match in hand against Gian Piero Gasperini's side.

A dominant first half from Inter saw no reward, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan combining neatly with Denzel Dumfries before the latter fired his effort over the bar.

Three minutes before half-time, Simone Inzaghi's team almost found the breakthrough, but Federico Dimarco's tame goal was easily scored by Como goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

But the home side found the goal their performance deserved shortly after the restart when Hakan Calhanoglu's corner was met by Augusto's head from close range.

The victory was sealed in second-half stoppage time when Thuram collected Piotr Zielinski's pass before slotting a fierce effort beyond the reach of Reina at his first post.

Data debrief: Inzaghi and Inter march on

Following the derby defeat to Milan, Inter have now won nine of their last 11 league games, and their performance on Monday further proved why they will challenge to retain the Scudetto this season.

They have now won all of their last eight Serie A matches against Como, and only against Pescara (eight) do the Nerazzurri have a longer winning streak in the competition.

Inter's triumph was aided by master craftsman Calhanoglu, who notched the assist for the opening goal. Since his Bundesliga debut in 2013/2014, he has now been involved in 150 goals in Europe's top five leagues (76 goals and 74 assists).

Only Kevin De Bruyne (223), Marco Reus (172), Angel Di Maria (170) and Dimitri Payet (162) reached this total in that time frame as a midfielder.

Thuram also continued his good form, registering his 22nd goal involvement (18 goals, four assists) in Serie A in 2024, the most in the division alongside Charles De Ketelaere.
