The midfielder will be eligible to play professionally again in March, with a string of clubs showing interest in his services.
Paul Pogba has set his sights on playing in the 2026 World Cup, with the tournament set to take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada, as the French player was ruled out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to injury.
Following the reduction of his doping ban and the player now being a free agent after he and Juventus parted ways, the 31-year-old aims to get back to his best and finish his international career with the French national team on a high note close.
Pogba fitness mystery
At the moment, Pogba's fitness remains a mystery as the last time he played at top level was on September 3, 2023, when Juve won at Empoli, with the centre-back taking 27 minutes. Injuries have plagued his regularity since then and his career was subsequently given a jolt after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) imposed a four-year ban on him after he tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone. Pogba's sentence was reduced to 18 months at the start of this season, meaning he could return to professional football in March 2025.
Pogba is currently training alone and interest in his services mainly comes from Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille. OM chairman Pablo Longoria and sporting director Medhi Benatia have both stated that they welcome the midfielder to the Stade Velodrome.
Pogba is attracted to the idea of returning to French football and is also keen to regain Deschamps' trust with the French national team. Despite coming through Le Havre's youth academy, Pogba has never played in the French top flight and his arrival at Marseille would be a huge boost for a league that has seen an exodus of high-profile stars following the departure of Kylian Mbappe in June confirmed.
In addition to Marseille, teams from the Premier League, MLS, Bundesliga and even Serie A are also monitoring Pogba's situation. The French player was even linked with Manchester City as a potential replacement for the absence caused by Rodri's ACL injury.
Time will tell where the player ends up, but March will see Pogba's resurrection.
