In just over a week, Arne Slot will get a second chance to leave his mark on Liverpool's squad.
The Reds already top the Premier League and Champions League and are through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. But after a modest summer of business, the January transfer window is quickly offering Slot the opportunity to sign players.
Federico Chiesa arrived earlier this year, while Giorgi Mamardashvili signed before staying on loan at Valencia and Martin Zubimendi opted to stay at Real Sociedad rather than move to Anfield. As a result, Slot flourished with players who were already at the club when he was appointed.
Now that key players have lost their contracts at the end of the season and can discuss terms with other clubs next month, there is still work to be done. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer stories surrounding Liverpool.
No Van Dijk deadline
Virgil van Dijk may speak to other clubs in January when he enters the final six months of his contract, but insists there is no deadline to agree a new contract. Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold find themselves in identical situations as Liverpool try to sign three key stars.
Van Dijk remains calm about his situation and the Dutchman claims his attention is simply focused on maintaining his side's place in the Premier League. “There is no deadline at all,” says Van Dijk. 'I'll see what the future brings. I'm fully focused on Leicester.”
Ricardo Pepi's bid has been confirmed
A Premier League club has made a £16.6 million bid for PSV star Ricardo Pepi, according to Goal. Liverpool are said to be a club interested in the American forward.
Pepi has scored ten league goals in just 636 minutes of action this season. The 21-year-old is expected to attract interest from across Europe next month, with PSV waiting for a significant offer.
The former Augsburg star will need a higher compensation than has been offered so far to persuade PSV to do business. The American international has a contract until 2028.
Cherki last
Liverpool are interested in Rayan Cherki, but have yet to negotiate with the player or club. Fabrizio Romano claims the Reds want to see more consistency before investing in the 21-year-old.
Lyon's financial problems have meant that Cherki's future has always been a topic of discussion for the Ligue 1 side, but it is already clear that rivals Paris Saint-Germain will not make a move for the player in January. Cherki has scored five goals and provided seven assists in his 18 appearances this season, including six in six games in the Europa League.
