Real Madrid have been linked with a move for manager Xabi Alonso for some time now, and with Carlo Ancelotti struggling earlier this season, it was almost a given at one point that he would arrive next summer. However, Bayer Leverkusen says this may not be the case.
According to Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro, they expect Alonso to stay at the club. The Spaniard has a strong relationship with Alonso, who he brought to the club.
“We assume he will stay. There is no other indication,” he explained in an interview with Kölner Stadtanzeiger, as carried by Sport.
“We maintain a very close and trusting relationship with him, his family and his agent. His contract continues for another year and a half. As always, he is involved in all processes and planning, even after this season
Recently, TSV Meerbusch chairman Christoph Peters told Kicker that Alonso's family is also based there. Jon Alonso, his son, plays for the under-17 team.
“Xabi Alonso and his wife are present in all our U-17 matches. In the last match, with Jon on the bench, Xabi watched the match from the stands for 80 minutes, even though his son was not playing. I love it.”
Alonso is tipped to replace Ancelotti if the Italian makes a move. However, their contracts both conveniently expire in 2026. It was recently reported that Real Madrid were making plans in case they have to fire Ancelotti, and Los Blancos may delay a move for Alonso unless they deem it necessary to to take a step forward. .
