Cristiano Ronaldo strips down to his shorts in the snow in Lapland

Cristiano Ronaldo made the most of the Saudi Pro League (SPL) winter break by taking a trip to Lapland with his family.

Ronaldo, 39, has shown no signs of slowing down in his performances this season, with the Portuguese superstar scoring 16 times in 19 appearances for Al-Nassr.

But it has been a difficult campaign for the Saudi side, who are managed by former AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli. Al-Nassr are fourth in the SPL, already 11 points behind leaders Al-Ittihad.

They are currently on a mid-season break and won't be back in action until January 9.

And Ronaldo made sure he made the most of his free time by taking his family on holiday to Lapland.

Lapland is Finland's northernmost region and is known for its ski resorts, the Northern Lights, while it is also widely regarded as the official home of Santa Claus.

The 39-year-old has shared several posts on social media from the trip, including one that showed him lying down to his shorts in the snow as he showed off his impressive physique.

Ronaldo accompanied the photo – which showed him grinning – with the caption: 'Merry Christmas, everyone.'

Ronaldo was joined in Lapland by his partner Georgina Rodriguez and their children as they made sure they made the most of their time off.

They visited Santa Claus, while also doing various activities in the snow, including what appeared to be Ronaldo riding a ski-doo.

However, the Portuguese superstar did not participate in any particular activity due to his position as a footballer.

This is because players' contracts typically ban them from extreme sports such as skiing for fear of injury, while Ronaldo's family try their hand at winter sports instead.

For Ronaldo and his family, the trip is a big difference from their normal lives in Riyadh, where the average temperature in December is around 17 degrees Celsius.

Yet temperatures in Lapland during the winter months can range from minus 16 degrees to three degrees, with occasional lows of minus 30 degrees.

Ronaldo will return to action on January 9 when Al-Nassr take on Al-Okhdood in the SPL.
