Want-away Marcus Rashford has posted on social media for the first time since confirming he is ready to leave Manchester United.
The 27-year-old Rashford is eager for a 'new challenge' and has not been part of United's squad for the past three games. New boss Ruben Amorim insists the decision is entirely up to him, despite reports that the Old Trafford hierarchy had decided to put him up for sale before his first ouster.
The forward has not posted on social media since traveling to his old primary school, Button Lane, last week to hand out Christmas presents. It was then that he revealed his plans to leave United after 20 years at his boyhood club, having spent nine seasons in the first team.
Now, Rashford has posted again, sharing a photo of himself with family members and loved ones ahead of Christmas Day. “Family time,” he wrote in the caption. “Happy Christmas everyone.”
Rashford's post comes after Amorim questioned whether it was really the 27-year-old's idea to publicly say he wanted to leave United. The Red Devils manager told Sky Sports: “Of course it is a difficult situation.
“But I understand that these types of players have a lot of people around them who make choices that sometimes are not the player's first idea. So I understand, I can separate things. I am always there to help Marcus if another player .” player. And they have to do what they have to do.
“I say they chose to do that interview because it's not just Marcus, and I understand that. As a coach I'm just focused on the performance, the way he trains. And the rest, I think it's better for me and the club to deal with that when the time comes.
“Right now I'm just focused on improving Marcus. We need a lot from talented guys like Marcus right now and I'll forget about the interview for now. I'll just see what I see on the field.”
Rashford is unlikely to feature for Wolves on Boxing Day as 13th-placed United look to turn their fortunes around after a torrid first half of the season. Amorim's team slumped to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Sunday, missing the opportunity to win consecutive Premier League games for the first time this season.
The winter transfer window opens on January 1.
