Barcelona may be exploring cheaper options to expand their squad next summer, and one of the options they have identified is Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo Mandava. The 30-year-old international from Mozambique will expire his contract next summer and appears to be on his way to Los Rojiblancos.
The Blaugrana have rejected the idea of going for Trent Alexander-Arnold or Alphonso Davies due to the cost, but are still looking to strengthen the full-back positions. Reinildo has played 18 games this season, but that's just 957 minutes and 10 starts. That reflects the fact that Javi Galan has made the left-back spot his own in recent times. MD says sporting director Deco views Reinildo as a left-back option who can play in central defense.
In Atletico's last seven Liga and Champions League games, Reinildo has played just 45 minutes, with previous reports claiming Atletico were willing to let him go in January too. If he were to arrive, it seems likely he would arrive on a similar basis to Marcos Alonso, who left for Celta Vigo last summer. Reinildo is more defensively sound than Alejandro Balde, but there are doubts about his effectiveness in the future in a high-possession system, which Barcelona prefer.
