Thomas Frank has laughed off suggestions that Arsenal or Liverpool could make a move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo in January.
The Cameroonian star is in the middle of a stunning season in West London, with ten goals and two assists in the Premier League alone. The 25-year-old has been linked with a host of big league players, including Arsenal and Liverpool.
But Bees boss Frank is determined to keep hold of his star man after warning all clubs interested in him. Speaking at a press conference ahead of his side's game with the Gunners, he said: “Those clubs in January [laughs]?
“I would say 'good luck'! We love Bryan, he loves playing here. He's had a fantastic season, so nothing will happen.”
Mbeumo came to Brentford from French side Troyes in the summer of 2019. He went on to play more than 200 games for the side, scoring 60 goals.
Mbeumo has just 18 months left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium. Ex-Liverpool star Emile Heskey has already suggested the forward as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who could leave Anfield for nothing in just six months.
Speaking to FourFourTwo last month, he said: “Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is a player I really like. He's fantastic on the ball, can beat a man and he scores a lot of goals for a team that's not quite competing at the top. end of the competition.
“In a top team he can score a lot of goals. It's difficult with Mo Salah, because who else gives you those numbers? Sometimes we want more from Mo, but if someone gives you twenty goals a season, almost every season, with more than 30 goal contributions it is something special.
“No one else in the league gives you those numbers, both in terms of goals and assists, so Liverpool have a huge job to do in finding someone who can replace Salah when he leaves – whenever that may be.”
Although Arsenal have been linked with a move for Mbeumo, it already appears they have chosen an alternative if they fail to sign the forward. The Gunners have also been linked with Wolves star Matheus Cunha, who is also in the middle of a stunning campaign.
The Brazilian has scored 10 goals and provided four assists for the Midlands side this season, but he could still face an FA ban. He was charged with misconduct following an altercation with an Ipswich staff member.
