Joshua Zirkzee is ready to fight for his place at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim despite being sent off after 33 minutes against Newcastle.
The £36million signing was said to be on a tear after being substituted in his side's defeat and was linked with a move away from the club this month. After scoring on his Premier League debut against Fulham, the Dutch forward failed to kick through and scored just four goals in total.
The 23-year-old has already been offered an escape route from Old Trafford to reunite with a familiar face. The Serie A side are interested in loaning Zirkzee for the rest of the season so he can link up with his former Bologna coach Thiago Motta.
United could still insist that any deal should include a commitment to buy the ex-Bayern Munich player. Juventus could also see competition from Italian rivals Napoli.
Both clubs were defeated by United in the summer until Zirkzee's signature. Despite the Italian giants both preparing to strike, Mail Online reports that the forward is aware of the interest but has focused on United.
Zirkzee is said to have 'no desire to leave' and wants to help the Red Devils rise in the Premier League. United are currently 14th in the division with just two wins from eight games since Amorim's arrival.
After the ignominious first-half substitution earlier this week, Zirkzee may still have a lot of work to do to improve his own reputation in England. Yet United's head coach appears to have some confidence in his leadership.
Amorim explained his brutal decision after the match and praised Zirkzee's efforts on the training ground. I talked to Josh about that because it's important to get the message across, but I always think about the team and at that moment it was important for the team. [for] Josh [to] go outside,” he said.
“You have to think about the team and sometimes also about the player, because the player is suffering. I was there a few years ago and I know he wants [it]because I saw it during the week, and that's the most important thing.”
“I felt like the team was bothered by another midfielder having more ball, and then we start to get more ball with Kobbie Mainoo,” Amorim added. 'It was really hard for me to do that [substitution].”
