Liverpool are reportedly plotting a move for one of the Premier League's emerging midfield stars after club scouts were left impressed.
The Reds have built a strong six-point lead at the top of the Premier League during Arne Slot's debut season and are expected to strengthen further in the January transfer window.
A Sunday meeting at Anfield with rivals Manchester United could see the Reds further strengthen their title hopes and the top players are already looking to the future as they focus on reinforcements.
Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is among the players who could arrive on Merseyside in the not-too-distant future, with Liverpool tracking the youngster, as reported by The Sun.
Anderson – who represents England at Under 21 level – only moved to the City Ground in the summer after Forest completed a deal with Newcastle for the midfield talent and is now the target of another move to the Premier League.
Liverpool have sent scouts to keep an eye on Anderson during Forest's last six games, with Anderson starring as the club won five games and lost just once to Manchester City.
The 22-year-old has played a crucial role in each of those impressive wins and has started 14 Premier League matches this season as Forest sit an unlikely third in the league.
Anderson is currently under contract with Forest until 2029, but Liverpool bosses are considering making a move soon as they risk one of their rivals stealing the march.
His performances mean Liverpool are expected to have to make a huge increase on the modest £35m Forest previously paid Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Anderson is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and remains fully focused on helping Forest qualify for the Champions League this season.
After the club's recent victory over Everton, Anderson said: 'Everyone dreams. We joke and talk about it every now and then.
'We are currently on a good momentum: it is four in a row and everyone is enthusiastic.
“It's obviously great to be there, but as everyone says, we have to take it one game at a time.
'On paper we have some great players in the team. It all clicks. Everyone is confident and we are going in the right direction.'
