Atletico Madrid will turn stadium into an ice rink over winter period

Atletico Madrid have ensured that they make full use of the Metropolitano in recent years, hosting regular events and concerts. Los Rojiblancos will also be in the Christmas spirit during the winter break.

As Relevo reported, Atletico plans to install a giant ice rink around the pitch while the team is not using it between December 21 and January 5. They will try to have families skate, with a capacity of about 1,500 skaters at a time. Four three-hour sessions are available between 10am and 10pm, although shorter opening times apply on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

An important part of their move to the Metropolitano was the desire to also turn the area around the stadium into a community center. The club is currently building new sports facilities, a concert hall and an inland beach, complete with a wave machine, so people can surf.
