UFC fan favorite Tony Ferguson's next fight is inching closer to potentially taking place on an upcoming platform.
Tony Ferguson's most recent showcase in the UFC Octagon was perhaps his last hurray with the promotion after a long tenure. If that's the case, one of his former rivals may have leaked his next move in free agency.
At the time of writing, Ferguson's return timeline is uncertain. Despite calls from many fans and pundits for Ferguson to walk away after a lengthy losing skid, Ferguson is looking ahead to what could be next for him in his fighting career.
Since falling to Michael Chiesa at UFC Abu Dhabi in August, Ferguson has been teasing a comeback on social media and begging the promotion to book him a fight. Several potential opponents have been tossed around, including a returning UFC Hall of Famer.
If Ferguson parts ways with the UFC as per UFC CEO Dana White, his former interim title foe says the fan favorite is in talks to make a move to MMA's newest promotional addition, Global Fight League.

Kevin Lee hints that Tony Ferguson's rematch will be discussed in the Global Fight League
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, former UFC lightweight Kevin Lee claimed that the GFL is in active discussions to sign Ferguson.
“The name that interests me the most is Tony Ferguson. He's had his ups and downs in his career, but we had a great fight for the UFC championship,” Lee said of Ferguson. “That's something that a lot of people can get behind, and that's a fight that I really, really want. April 4 is the first event, we are about four months further…
Lee was then pressed about what he may have known about Ferguson's potential signing.
'Yes, he is talking to [the GFL]” Lee claimed.
At the time of writing, Ferguson has not yet responded to Lee's comments. Ferguson defeated Lee as interim lightweight champion at UFC 216 and headlined a major event in Las Vegas just days after a mass shooting in the city.
Kevin Lee says Tony Ferguson speaks to GFL amid cloudy UFC future
Ferguson has lost eight straight fights since a doctor's stoppage victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 238. Since then, he has suffered recent defeats to the likes of Nate Diaz, Paddy Pimblett and Michael Chandler.
Lee's planned return to fighting comes almost a full year after announcing his retirement. His last MMA win was against Thiago Oliveira at Lights Out Championship 17 in September.
Ferguson vs. Lee 2 could be in the cards for both fighters, especially if Ferguson joins the GFL. In the meantime, the future of the former interim champion remains foggy.
