Mohamed Salah would fail to repeat his goalscoring streak at Liverpool if he played for Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou has suggested.
The Spurs boss believes Salah trusts his team-mates to be in good form and admitted his own side are struggling to serve their attackers.
His comments come ahead of their home match against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday evening.
The showdown pits the top two scorers in the Premier League against each other, and Salah, the top scorer with 18 goals, will be hoping to rise up against an unpredictable defence.
“Mo is a world-class player, but if you put him in our team now, I'm not sure he would have the same impact because of the situation we are in as a group,” Postecoglou said.
'His attacking game, who do you need? You need a team that is in good form, creates chances, plays up front and has a very solid foundation for a coherent defense. None of these things exist right now.”
He then turned the spotlight to Son Heung-min, the Spurs captain who this week extended his contract until 2026 but has failed to match his usual productive heights this season.
'I dare say that if you put Son Heung-min in the Liverpool team, I think his goal return would be decent. We are a team that is very disturbed, that does not play with the fluidity that it can. And that has an effect,” says Postecoglou.
“It's difficult for our players at the moment, they are trying really hard to be the best they can be.
“But when we're at our best, I still think you'll see Sonny's return. In terms of his ability to score goals and be really effective for us, I don't think that has diminished at all.”
The meeting between these teams in December provided a real goal-fest for the fans, just in time for Christmas.
Liverpool ran out a 6-3 winner, with Salah striking twice.
