Manchester City working on signing €40m-rated Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov

Manchester City are working on signing Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov, 20, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. The 20-year-old Uzbek international has attracted significant interest from a handful of Premier League clubs and the Cityzens appear to have made big moves in the race to sign the coveted Khusanov. No agreement has yet been reached. The Uzbek international joined Lens from Belarusian Energetik-BGU for a reduced price of €100,000. His value has skyrocketed since then. Despite his young age, Khusanov has established himself as a mainstay in Will Still's starting XI.

Lens CEO Pierre Dréossi already told DAZN that Khusanov would leave as a way to balance the club's books. The Artois side also previously confirmed that Gestifute chief Jorge Mendes had been given the mandate to sell 20-year-old Khusanov. Should Khusanov become the subject of a bidding war between Premier League clubs, Lens can hope to raise more than €40 million for the sale of Khusanov, which would be their second biggest sale after the retirement of Belgian international Loïs Openda in 2023 in exchange of €49 million from RB Leipzig.
