Elon Musk’s stance on EPL club ownership revealed as historic tweet goes viral

Elon Musk's stance on owning a Premier League club was revealed in an earlier tweet that went viral after he was sensationally linked with Liverpool.

Musk's father claimed the billionaire tycoon is interested in forking over the money at Anfield – although no official approach has been received by the Reds' hierarchy.

Valued at an estimated £340 billion, any investment from Musk would be just a drop in the bucket, and he named one club he was most keen to invest in in 2022.

The posts, which have since resurfaced in the wake of the shock Merseyside takeover rumors, also shed light on whether his interest should be taken seriously.

'I also buy Manchester United ur [sic] welcome,” Musk tweeted.

One account, looking to gauge whether Musk was joking, replied: “Are you serious?”

Musk then clarified, saying, “No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I don't buy sports teams. Although, if it were a team, it would be Man U.

“They were my favorite team as a kid.”

As reported by Mail Sport, Liverpool's owners have no intention of selling the club, regardless of any concrete interest from Musk.

In an impressive interview, Musk's father Errol confirmed that the businessman may want to add the club to a portfolio that also includes SpaceX, Tesla and X.

“I can't comment on that, they will increase the price,” Errol told Times Radio.

When asked if there was indeed interest, Errol replied: 'Oh yes. But that doesn't mean he buys it. He would like that, of course.

“Everyone would want that, including me.”

But Liverpool insiders are said to have played down the prospect as owners Fenway Sports Group are not currently interested in a sale.

In May, the club was valued as the fourth most valuable in the world at £4.3 billion. However, such an expense would amount to just over one percent of Musk's total net worth.

When asked why Musk is specifically interested in Liverpool, his father revealed that his family has had ties to the city for decades.

'His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we had family in Liverpool, and we were lucky enough to know a lot of the Beatles, because they grew up with part of my family. So we are attached to Liverpool, you know,” Errol added.

FSG bought Liverpool for just £300m in 2010 and have shown no signs of moving on, despite criticism from supporters over their perceived inability to spend big on transfers.
