Daniel Cormier pours cold water on Jon Jones’ $30million Tom Aspinall fight deal

Former UFC two-time champion Daniel Cormier has reservations about Jon Jones' desired purse for a heavyweight title fight against Tom Aspinall.

Following his victory over Stipe Miocic in their controversial UFC 309 main event last November, Jon Jones claimed he needed 'F*** you money' to fight interim champion Tom Aspinall.

With that, UFC icon and commentator Joe Rogan recently claimed that the amount 'Bones' is looking for is $30 million, which would be astronomical compared to the standard UFC salary.

Daniel Cormier doubts Jones will get $30 million to fight Tom Aspinall

Before the end of 2024, UFC CEO Dana White gave a positive update on the potential of a Jones vs. Aspinall fight, stating that he was “100%” confident they could make that fight happen.

Although negotiations have already begun between the promotion and the two heavyweights, it is unclear whether the UFC is willing to pay the 37-year-old champion the desired $30 million.

And with that, former UFC doubles champion and former rival of Jones, Daniel Cormier, doesn't think Jones will get the $30 million payout he wants, as that would be “a world away” from what fighters usually get paid.

“I'll tell you right now as a person who has been involved in big fights, a person who has sold pay-per-views, a person who was at the top of the pay scale in the UFC in his time as the heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, $30 million was literally a world away from everything we made,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“I remember when I was getting paid in New York, I got a big bump to fight on three weeks notice, which ended up being my salary and people were amazed at the number.

“But I will tell you it was a fraction of what the number is that Jones is asking for, and it wasn't nearly that,” Cormier continued.

Jones' wages for his fight against Miocic were not published, but his wages for his fight against Cormier at UFC 182 were, and he reportedly earned $500,000 for his win, but that did not include bonuses such as PPV points.

Some reports suggest that Jones earned over $3.6 million after that fight, including PPV points and sponsorships, making it the 11th largest payout in UFC history.

Cormier also recently revealed that Dana White gave him a huge $1 million bonus for that fight despite the loss.

Cormier believes Jones could get $15-20 million for his fight against Aspinall

UFC 309 has broken the $16 million gate. Cormier believes that when you add in how many PPVs it sold, Jones' call for $30 million might not be such a big gamble.

“Now, when you start looking at it like that, you start to think, I don't know if this question is as crazy as people say.

“Rogan thinks the UFC will pay the $30 million to get Jon Jones there along with Tom Aspinall. “I'm not sure if he gets $30 million, but if you ask for $30 million and you get $20 million or you get $15 million, then that's a win for Jon Jones on the way out,” Cormier added to it.
