Dana White books fight with 150lb weight difference as heavyweights set for Madison Square Garden

Dana White is bringing boxing back to the theater at Madison Square Garden, and one fight in particular really stands out to viewers.

The UFC boss will head to Madison Square Garden on March 16, where his Irish prospect Callum Walsh, promoted by Tom Loeffler and 360 Boxing, will take on Scot Dean Sutherland. He plans to showcase Irish talent, with huge crowds expected to turn out for the show.

One fighter who is catching fans' attention is heavyweight Thomas Carty, who has scored nine explosive knockouts in his ten professional fights. But he takes on a whole new challenge when he goes to America for the first time.

Dana White books heavyweight bout with 150 pound weight difference

When Dana White traveled to Dublin for Callum Walsh's homecoming in September, he was surprised by the outpouring of support for Dubliner Thomas Carty. The hard-hitting Celtic champion immediately caught his attention and he promised to bring him to America for Paddy's day.

White has stayed true to that promise, but pits him against a behemoth in 6’3″ knockout artist Dajuan Calloway. What's most notable about Calloway, aside from his eight KOs, is his enormous weight, tipping the scales at over 400 pounds for his last three fights.

Carty, a slimmer figure, is an inch taller but weighs just 259 pounds at his heaviest. In his most recent appearance he weighed 253 pounds, and was as light as 243 pounds at one point in his career, marking a difference of more than 160 pounds from Calloway's peak of 406 pounds.

Calloway's lowest weight of his career was still a whopping 362 pounds, which was almost three years ago. Even if he were able to make that weight again and Carty entered career heavyweight, there would still be more than 100 pounds between the two, and that gap will likely be closer to 150 pounds.

Bloody Elbow confirmed the fight with sources after it was leaked on BoxRec today, and an announcement is expected soon. Carty has been at camp for weeks, which means he'll be in training for months when the next date rolls around.

Thomas Carty wants Johnny Fisher to fight after his American debut

Carty is one of the most acclaimed players in Britain and Ireland, sharing the sparring ring with world champions such as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. He is managed by Dillian Whyte's stable and is looking to make a big name for himself after making a statement in New York.

He has previously fought for Eddie Hearn under the Matchroom Boxing banner and is looking to return to that name against massive ticket-seller Johnny Fisher. The 'Romford Bull' recently scored a highly controversial victory over Dave Allen, and Carty wants to be next in line.

Speaking to All Things Boxing last year, Carty said: “I'm blue in the face asking for the fight. The way things are going for me, my career is flourishing at the moment.

“I'm really into my own career and that fight is really something I think we can make and the way they're fighting in Saudi Arabia at the moment, me and Johnny Fisher, it's a huge fight.”
