Manchester City in advanced negotiations for Real Madrid target

Real Madrid tried to secure the future of their defense last summer but were left empty-handed when Manchester United beat them to securing the signing of Leny Yoro. Their crosstown rivals now look set to adopt another of Los Blancos' standards.

It's a problem that hasn't gone away for Carlo Ancelotti, with Eder Militao suffering a second cruciate ligament injury and Raul Asencio coming into the side. Although Real Madrid were unlikely to make a move in January, Real Madrid had identified Palmeiras centre-back Vitor Reis as a potential option for the summer.

Reis is Chief Scout Juni Calafat's preferred move, but The Athletic reports that Manchester City have now agreed personal terms with the Brazilian. They are in discussions with Palmeiras about a fee, with O Verdao asking for just over thirty million euros. It is not yet clear whether the move will take place now or in the summer, as Palmeiras are keen to have him for the Club World Cup in June.

To make matters worse, City have also opened talks with another Real Madrid target: RC Lens' Abdukodir Khusanov, another young defender who is impressing. Los Blancos look to move for a centre-back this summer, although that is not seen as a priority. They also reportedly turned down the chance to sign Virgil van Dijk due to his age.
