Real Madrid tried to open contract talks with top player Vinicius Junior but were told by his agents to wait while Saudi Arabia tried to persuade him to sign a €1 billion contract over the next five years. Los Blancos consider Al-Ahli as their biggest obstacle to signing a new contract with the Brazilian.
According to Relevo, Vinicius considered leaving Real Madrid for Saudi Arabia, but decided now was not the time to leave the Santiago Bernabeu as he still had plenty of time to move to the Middle East later in his career. That's part of the reason Los Blancos are optimistic about a new contract for their star.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia spoke to its agents again in December and once again expressed their interest in Vinicius for the coming summer. They will come back with the €1 billion contract offer and are optimistic about their own chances of signing him sooner or later. In their bid to stave off the lure of Saudi oil money, Real Madrid are keen to agree a new contract with Vinicius before the end of the season.
Especially if Vinicius reaches the summer without a new Real Madrid deal, the noise from Saudi Arabia could prove a distraction as they will no doubt do their best to convince him. If Vinicius makes it through the summer without a new contract, with his current contract until 2027, the clock will also start ticking for Real Madrid, which will be unfavorable for their negotiations.
