Sutton on Nkunku: It looks like it’s just not going to happen for him at Chelsea

Christopher Nkunku, 27, has struggled to reach the level he showed during his time at RB Leipzig since joining Chelsea in 2023. The France international was bought for 62 million euros, but has not yet justified his promise during his season and a half in London. price tag.

Multiple serious injuries disrupted his debut season, with Chelsea ruling him out for 36 games in all competitions, while in his second season he has so far avoided these issues but has failed to find consistent playing time.

His head coach Enzo Maresca has used the France international more in cup competitions where he earns regular starts, while in the league he is generally only trusted to make partial appearances at the end of games.

Transfer rumors are swirling and Nkunku has been linked with a return to his formative club Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking to NewBettingSites.uk, former Chelsea player Chris Sutton said: “I see Nkunku leaving. Maresca seems reluctant to use his bench and Nkunku has not had enough regular playing time. The fact that he's down the pecking order and not getting regular game time certainly tells you that Maresca thinks he's fine, but you need more than just fine if you want to push for the Premier League title.”

Sutton continued: “Nkunku had a terrible injury but unless you get regular game time it's very difficult to find that rhythm. He is a talented player but it looks like this is another one that won't happen to him at Chelsea.”
