Liverpool transfer news: Arne Slot responds Khvicha Kvaratskhelia links amid stark warning

Liverpool were somewhat cautious in the transfer market in January, but that could all be down to the change.

Arne Slot's team is well at the top of the Premier League and still plays in both the League Cup and the FA Cup. But the Reds have been on a bit of a lull in recent weeks.

They were held by fierce rivals Manchester United last weekend before being knocked out by Tottenham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. Some new faces can be helpful to get them back on track.

A number of stars have been linked to Liverpool recently. Check out all the latest transfer news and rumors ahead of this weekend's FA Cup tie with Accrington Stanley.

One man Liverpool have recently been linked with is Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian wideman has long been rumored to be a candidate for a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool are mentioned again, with reports suggesting that both they and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring him. But Arne Slot refuses to reveal details. Asked about the links he said: “When you said you were associated with”, I thought: 'Which club is he going to say next?' But you mean that as a club we are connected to Kvaratskhelia.

“What I make of that is that this is January and I think I said it after the game against West Ham United [to journalists]please don't disappoint me, please come with all these players and all these clubs that are in our interest.

“Or those who don't play much for us go somewhere else. That.” [speculation] is what is happening now. And nine times out of ten or 99 times out of 100, by the end of the window it was clear that almost all of these stories were not true. So what can I say about it? Rumors continue to circulate about it, but there has been no comment from me.”

While Kvaratskhelia may be on his way, Federico Chiesa is a man who could leave. The Italian winger has been linked with a return to Italy after barely making an appearance in his first season at Anfield.

And worryingly, Slot has revealed there is no guarantee the former Juventus man will feature. “Every match is an opportunity for every player to get some playing time,” said the Liverpool boss.

“It's not just been hard for him because of all the things you just said in terms of competitive fitness – I'm not going to say all these things again – it's also having to compete with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah.”

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick has urged Ben Doak to stay at the club despite reported interest from Crystal Palace and Ipswich. “It's difficult for me to answer that,” Carrick said of the Liverpool loanee. “It certainly suits him in many ways.

“There's no denying that some of it is out of our hands, but I'm very calm and satisfied. Hopefully it works out and we are all happy and we still have Ben. We're in a good place and it's a good place for him.”

Doak, 19, joined Middlesbrough on loan this summer. He scored two goals and provided six assists in 21 championships.
