Liverpool are said to be open to selling Harvey Elliott for £40 million as Borussia Dortmund circle the youngster.
Elliott has been known at Anfield for a number of years after bursting onto the scene at Fulham as a teenager. The 21-year-old has gradually become a more regular under Jurgen Klopp and enjoyed his most productive season in the Reds shirt last season.
However, this season it was a different story under Arne Slot. A serious ankle injury has put a halt to his ambitions, but he has only featured sporadically since his return in November. He has made just nine appearances in all competitions this season and is yet to start a Premier League game.
Liverpool must consider their options and would demand a fee of between £35 million and £40 million for a player who is unlikely to have any admirers but is down the pecking order at Anfield.
The German side are keen to offer him a new opportunity, The Sun reports. Dortmund has proven to be an environment where young players thrive, with Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham taking advantage of this.
Brighton are also among those at the front of the queue should Elliott attempt to move on. Liverpool have shown that they can make big profits from players and the striker would be another example. The Seagulls are market smart and would likely see great value for money in a player who has his prime years ahead of him.
Elliott also operates in an area of the team where there is tremendous competition. The England U21 star has often played in the front three but can also drop into midfield, but Slot has several established names as part of the first team.
Arne Slot has spoken about the limited minutes given to Elliott, but admitted his injury means he needs time to get into top form. He said: “I agree he is a talented player. He has been this to us for so long. In recent weeks he has been coming in a lot and getting his minutes there, but just like him, like everyone else, they are also competing with a lot of other good players.”
The Dutch manager added: “In this competition, in this pace, in this intensity, and the quality that we have, and that of the other teams, it is not that easy to come back and be at your best straight away .”
Elliott came through Fulham's academy and was the youngest ever Premier League player at the time of his debut for West London. Liverpool paid £4.3 million to bring him to Anfield after a tribunal. Since then he has made 128 appearances for the Reds and scored 11 goals.
