Olmo and Pau Victor missed the semi-final victory over Athletic Club due to LaLiga registration problems. How is the Supercopa de España affected?
Barcelona will face El Clásico rivals Real Madrid in a second successive Spanish Super Cup final and their squad for the match in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is strengthened by the availability of key striker Dani Olmo.
The special case of Dani Olmo's registration
Olmo has been the latest victim of the Catalans' financial mismanagement. RB Leipzig's $64 million summer signing was briefly unregistered with LaLiga as of January 1, 2025 after Barça failed to prove they met the Spanish league's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules by December 31 .
However, the 26-year-old, along with fellow striker Pau Victor, who is in the same position, have been given the green light to play for the club after the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), Spain's Supreme Sports Council. , ruled against LaLiga's decision, which also affected the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), not to allow them to re-register.
The duo can now play until the end of the season, although Barcelona will have to go through the entire registration process again for the 2025/26 season.
The RFEF, which manages both the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey, had previously stated that it “cannot process any license without prior approval from LaLiga.”
Olmo's status for the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid
As a result, Olmo was unavailable to play in the Copa del Rey win against Barbastro on 4 January, or the Spanish Super Cup semi-final win over Athletic Club on 8 January.
That same day, however, news broke that Barca's appeal to the CSD had been successful, meaning Olmo and Victor could play against Real Madrid at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on Sunday (January 12).
