Tottenham eyeing English winger and have transfer war chest but striker haunted by World Cup miss more realistic target

SPURS face a big opportunity to get Ange Postecoglou the help he needs after so many of his first-team squad were sidelined by injuries.

His defense was decimated when goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was out until the end of February with a broken ankle.

While central defenders Cristiano Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies will not return until the end of this month.

But they have also had problems in attacking positions, with Richarlison missing for most of the season, while youngsters Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore have also been absent.

What does Tottenham need?

The first need has been met: they have brought in a new goalkeeper.

And not just any back-up, but someone who now wants to challenge Vicario for a starting spot, in the form of Czech rising star Antonin Kinsky.

The 21-year-old joined from Slavia Prague for £12.5 million plus add-ons, signing a six-and-a-half-year contract.

He went straight into action for Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at home to Liverpool and was hugely impressive as he kept a clean sheet on his debut.

But Spurs are eyeing more signings this month, whether on loan or permanently.

Centre-back and top striker are two key areas, and in a perfect world they would like a wideman too.

Destiny Udogie's long-term hamstring problem also leaves them short at left back.

Young South Korean winger Yang Min-hyeok, 18, was signed in the summer but has only just arrived at the club, although his focus now is on adapting to his new surroundings.

Who is the perfect purchase?

Spurs like Jamie Gittens, the 20-year-old English winger who is making waves at Borussia Dortmund.

The former Manchester City academy star featured in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.

And this season he has been a regular starter with nine goals in 18 starts in all competitions.

He would be exactly the kind of player who could add some star quality to the left side of the Spurs attack, where Son Heung-min shone for so long, but that term has largely faded away.

But the England Under-21 man, formerly known as Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, would be very expensive.

Dortmund are sixth in a crowded Bundesliga, but are still in the hunt for a top eight place in the Champions League stage.

While the chances of them selling two wingers in one window appear slim, teammate Donyell Malen could move to Aston Villa.

Who is more realistic?

Randal Kolo Muani is on the market at Paris Saint-Germain and the striker, best known for his World Cup final appearance in 2022, is being loaned out.

The France international, 26, could not get into the team when Kylian Mbappe was there and is now struggling for game time as Luis Enrique prefers a false nine.

However, eight goals in 27 appearances for his country underline his talent and Postecoglou has already spoken publicly about bringing in a new striker.

You can't blame him as Richarlison's fitness had proven unreliable during his time at the club since joining from Everton for £60m in 2022.

However, Muani has other suitors including Juventus and in the Bundesliga, although SunSport understands Chelsea are NOT interested.

Spurs could make a compelling case for the former Eintracht Frankfurt man, who can also play out wide.

It is also believed that they like the look of current Eintracht goalkeeper Omar Marmoush, but it appears he is on his way to Manchester City.

Tottenham could also move for young Irish striker Mason Melia, 17, who has shown great potential and is likely to leave St. Patrick's Athletic this month.

At the back, they have attracted interest in Uzbek speedy centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov, who is set to leave Lens in the winter.

How are the finances?

Strong. Chairman Daniel Levy is regularly criticized by supporters, especially when results are bad, as they have been recently.

But the supremo can claim to have no problems with compliance with profit and sustainability rules, unlike other clubs.

It means there is money that can be spent in this window if they want to.

Could someone be on their way out?

Because it's so complicated right now, it's more about adding players than losing them.

28-year-old Sergio Reguilon is out of contract this summer and is expected to move this month.

Although even that may not be final, as Udogie is expected to be out for another six weeks.

If they get the right players in, youngsters like Will Lankshear and Alfie Dorrington could be loaned out to gain experience.

If everything went to plan, how might Tottenham line up after the January window?
