Carlo Ancelotti slammed Real Madrid's performance in their 5-2 thrashing of Barcelona in the Supercopa de España final, claiming his side 'didn't play football'.
Ancelotti watched on as his side were soundly beaten by their Clasico rivals, despite Kylian Mbappe giving Los Blancos a fifth-minute lead at King Abdullah Sports City.
Raphinha's brace was followed by goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Alejandro Balde, with Rodrygo's consolation from a free kick.
Los Blancos played with an extra man for more than half an hour after Barca goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was given his marching orders for a challenge on Mbappé.
But the damage had already been done by Barcelona's ruthless first-half display, with Hansi Flick leading the Blaugrana to a record-extending 15th Supercopa title.
Ancelotti's side placed more shots (19) than Barcelona (14) during the match, but finished the encounter with an expected goals total (xG) of just 1.76 to their opponents' 2.41.
Barcelona have now scored nine goals in their last two Clasicos against Madrid, more than they had in their previous six meetings in all competitions.
Ahead of kick-off, Ancelotti wanted to avenge Los Blancos' 4-0 defeat to their LaLiga rivals in October but felt equally embarrassed at full-time.
“We defended poorly, this hurt us in the match, they found the goals in a simple way and we did not defend well in the high press or in the low block,” Ancelotti added.
“At half-time I said that we should try to play football first, because we didn't play football in the first half, but hit long balls, but that was not the intention.
“The idea was to play, and we didn't do that. I told them they can lose games, but not the way we played in the first half.
“It was a bad evening. We are sad just like our fans. It is a disappointment, we cannot hide it, but this is football,” Ancelotti said shortly after the match.
“Sometimes you can win, and sometimes you have to learn from defeat. We have to look ahead. That's all there is. We just have to look ahead.”
Madrid will be hoping to overcome their Supercopa defeat when they return to action in the Copa del Rey against Celta Vigo next Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals.
