Manchester United will be hoping their season comes to an end this month after following up an impressive performance against Liverpool by knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup on penalties.
United will now face Leicester in the fourth round next month as they look to retain the trophy they won under Erik ten Hag last season. It remains to be seen whether any new players will join the club before then, but there is plenty to do during the January transfer window.
United must sell before they can buy, but a move is expected before the end of the month. That said, Mirror Football has taken a look at all the latest transfer news and rumours.
Mainoo sent a message
Amorim has challenged Kobbie Mainoo to prove he is worth a new contract, with the midfielder currently in a stalemate over a new deal.
Mainoo's current salary of £20,000 per week does not reflect his importance to United, but the Red Devils are unwilling to give him the £200,000 per week wage he demands. Chelsea are waiting in the wings if an agreement cannot be reached and when asked about the situation, Amorim said: “I think Kobbie Mainoo has improved a lot in the last few games. But I think you guys have the feeling that he is the end product – and he isn't.
“He has so much potential to grow even further. He is really good, but he can get so much better. I think he is improving, all players are improving, all players are important to me, regardless of whether they worked. ” with me in the past.”
Garnacho pose
Napoli are eyeing Alejandro Garnacho as a possible replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has told manager Antonio Conte he wants to leave.
According to Sport Italia, Garnacho is Conte's favorite target and United could consider cashing in on the winger if Napoli made a bid worth €50 million. Garnacho was not a regular starter under Amorim, with the 20-year-old making just five starts in all competitions.
His sale would also mean that any money United get for him will count as pure profit in terms of profit and sustainability rules, as Garnacho joined the club's academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020, when he was just 16 .
Rashford insisted on moving abroad
Marcus Rashford is expected to leave United this month after falling out of favor under Amorim, and former Premier League striker Emile Heskey believes a move abroad would be best for the forward.
Rashford has been heavily linked with the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan and Heskey told Instant Casino: “I don't think there will be any Premier League club that will want to sign him in this window. I don't think Arsenal would sign him. ” this window.
“I was thinking more about abroad, more about Italy, Spain or France, and I actually think a move abroad could be the best thing for him. Go play. Go and regain that love of football. We look at other players who did that.” it before and then they've come back and really taken off. There's no reason why he couldn't do that too.
