Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta eyes Italy star as Jorginho attracts interest

Arsenal have yet to make any new signings in the January transfer window but could now be forced into action in a bid to save their season.

Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini has become a target for Arsenal, according to reports from Italy.

Italian outlet La Repubblica claims, according to Sport Witness, that Roma is evaluating its future as Pellegrini's contract expires in 2026. Napoli and Inter Milan are both said to be interested in the midfielder, but Arsenal are also in the race.

It is claimed that Pellegrini is more likely to leave Roma in the summer and that he could be a good signing for the Gunners due to his contract situation.

Exit Jorginho?

Jorginho is out of contract at the end of the season and ESPN reports that his agent, Joao Santos, has held talks with Palmeiras over a move.

Earlier this month, Arteta said contract talks with Jorginho and fellow midfielder Thomas Partey have been postponed as he wants to focus on the rest of the season. “I don't want to start these conversations now, I want to have these conversations much later because the focus has to be on what we need to do this season,” he said.

However, it is claimed that Arsenal would only like to offer Jorginho a one-year contract extension, but the former Chelsea star would prefer to sign a longer contract.

Wolves are connected to a star

According to a report from the Sun, Arsenal are among a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be considering a move for the 23-year-old, who has impressed since joining Wolves from Flamengo in 2023. The report states that Wolves are 'determined' not to sell Gomes and that he is under contract. until 2028.
