Chelsea want to sell star they only signed this season despite Enzo Maresca wish

Chelsea are keen to sell Renato Veiga if he leaves the club this month.

The 21-year-old joined Stamford Bridge from Basel this summer for £12million. Veiga has enjoyed most of his minutes in cup competitions this season and played the full match against Morecambe last weekend, but has struggled to break into Enzo Maresca's Premier League team.

Nevertheless, the Verstalie star has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli, among others. The former are said to have even made agreements with Veiga about a transfer this month and would like to loan the Portuguese star.

However, that may not suit Chelsea. The Telegraph reports that the Blues are only willing to facilitate the sale of the player who can play in defense or midfield.

The west London side value Veiga at more than £20 million and would like to see a tidy profit on a player signed just months ago. An exit for Veiga, who is reportedly looking to settle before next year's World Cup, could see Chelsea potentially return to the transfer market to find support for Marc Cucurella at left-back.

Veiga isn't the only Blues summer signing linked with a move this month. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is also linked with an exit after minutes.

Head coach Enzo Maresca insisted Veiga was still seen as a Chelsea player despite links with the likes of Wolves. However, the Italian did not rule out his departure, as a number of parties would have their say.

“He is the same as Kiernan. Renato is our player, [on Saturday] he is going to play and he is a player we would like to have here with us,” Maresca said ahead of the weekend.

“The last game he played was Tottenham away and at a delicate moment of the game we put him there. It showed how much we trust Renato.

“But like I said, it's not just about what I think, or what the club thinks, or what the player thinks. It's something that together we have to make the right decision for the club, the players and the manager.”

Dortmund are also said to have an interest in Blues star Carney Chukwuemeka. The former Aston Villa midfielder has struggled to force his way into Maresca's plans this season after injury problems under Mauricio Pochettino last season.

When asked if there had been contact with the player, Maresca replied: “No. I honestly don't know. I don't think so.”
