ARSENAL have reportedly completed a deal to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi at the end of the season.
The midfielder has been targeted by several top Premier League clubs in recent months.
But the Gunners have won the race for his signature and will activate his £51m release clause, reports the Daily Mail.
Arsenal wanted to sign the Spaniard immediately, but Real Sociedad refused to let him go before the end of the season.
Zubimendi was courted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the summer, but did not want to leave.
It was then believed that Arsenal were not in contention, although Mikel Arteta had been exploring a move for his compatriot over the past 12 months.
Arteta signed Mikel Merino in the summer to expand his midfield options, while Jorginho and Thomas Partey had their contracts expired in the summer.
Zubimendi played a role in Spain's success at Euro 2024 in the summer, seeing action in the final against England.
He has won 15 caps for his country and also helped Real Sociedad qualify for the Champions League last season.
Arsenal have been tipped to sign a striker this month due to the injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, but Arteta said the club will not rush into any transfers.
He said: “We are actively looking into the market to improve the squad. It has been that way since day one.”
