Former Chelsea star looks unrecognisable as he pushes his body to the limit

Former Premier League title winner Andre Schurrle took to the mountains to complete the Iceman Challenge again.

Schurrle was capped 57 times by Germany and became a World Cup winner in 2014, but he called it quits at the age of 29 after revealing he could no longer cope with the loneliness and endless competition he faced in top-flight football wanted to offer.

The 34-year-old, who played for both Chelsea and Fulham during his time in the English top flight, has now swapped the heights of playing football at the highest level for scaling the heights of mountains across Europe.

On Sunday, he shared a post on Instagram revealing that he had undertaken the Iceman Challenge for the third consecutive year, inspired by Dutch extreme athlete and motivational speaker Wim Hof.

The challenge involved Schurrle climbing a snow-covered mountain without wearing a T-shirt, in what is intended to be a tough test of the participants' mental and physical strength.

The German wore only shorts, gloves, a hat and hiking boots during his expedition in sub-zero temperatures.

He posted on Instagram afterwards: 'Look at us!! What a day! Pushed through the absolute limit!! With my brothers!

'The coldest I've ever been! Discomfort! Pain! Suffer! Grow!'

In 2023, the ex-midfielder documented his daring journey to the top of Germany's highest mountain, climbing the Zugspitze, which has a peak just under 3,000 meters above sea level.

Schurrle took on the challenge at 2 a.m., with temperatures below freezing, once again wearing shorts, hiking boots and gloves.

Schurrle finished his career with 86 goals in 373 appearances, including spells at Mainz 05, Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund, Fulham and Spartak Moscow.

Meanwhile, his international career ended in 2017, with the forward scoring an impressive 22 times in 57 games.
