Tyson Fury has sent shockwaves through the boxing world by announcing his retirement.
On Monday, 'The Gypsy King' shared the news in a cryptic video statement on social media after suffering his second straight defeat to three-belt heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk less than a month ago.
“Hello everyone, I'm going to make this short and sweet,” said Tyson Fury. “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been amazing, I have loved every minute of it.
He then left a bizarre final verse on the video, adding: “I'm going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everyone, see you on the other side. Get up!”

Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn react to Tyson Fury's departure
Jake Paul was one of the high-profile fighters to respond to Tyson Fury's retirement announcement.
'The Problem Child' joked about refocusing his energy on Tommy Fury as he continues his search for an opponent after beating Mike Tyson in November.
“Well, here goes the big announcement. I think we need to refocus on the other Fury,” Paul wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
Anthony Joshua's promoter hoped to make the 'biggest fight in history' with Fury this year.
Eddie Hearn learned that Fury was walking away from combat sports during an IFL TV interview.
“I saw that coming. Yeah, I saw that coming,” he said after seeing Fury's viral post on social media.
“If you ever want to come back and make the most of it, you have to retire first, right? Someone has to bring you out of retirement.
“If this is the last we see of Tyson Fury, good luck to him. I personally doubt it, but whatever he chooses will have a lot of respect for him.
'I think he wants to fight again. I think he's getting bored. I think he knows the British public wants to see the AJ fight. My personal belief is that we will see him in the ring again.
“I am not disappointed. What will be, will be. In life, some things are out of your control. You can't be disappointed by someone else's action, you can only be disappointed by the things you have control over.
'If he wants to retire, there's nothing we can do about it. When he's up for the challenge. If he's up for the biggest fight in the sport, great! But we can't dictate what Tyson Fury does.”
Tyson Fury's promoter reacts to his retirement
Frank Warren was unaware that his star client would be making a retirement announcement.
The Hall of Fame boxing promoter has been working with Fury since he made his comeback in 2018.
They have achieved great things together over the past seven years. Despite being blindsided by Fury's retirement revelation, Warren wishes the heavyweight legend nothing but the best as he prepares for life after fighting.
'God bless him. If that's what he wants to do, then he should do it,” Warren told TNT Sports.
“He has made a lot of money, he has had a fantastic career and is probably the best heavyweight of this century.
“He has experienced great fights. I've loved every minute of it, and I hope all the fans do too.
“He has been brilliant for British and world boxing, and I wish him a wonderful retirement and a happy life.”
