Real Madrid are expected to sign a central defender in the next 1 to 2 years, although their list of targets is gradually shrinking. Abdukodir Khusanov is set to sign for Manchester City, and another player soon to join the reigning Premier League champions is Vitor Reis.
Reis has been on Real Madrid's radar for the past 12 months and their excellent relationship with Palmeiras is expected to give them an advantage in negotiations. Ultimately, however, they didn't make a move and instead Man City are on the verge of signing the Brazilian teenager for a fee in the region of €40 million, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
Over the course of the season so far, it has become clear that Real Madrid need a centre-back – and soon. One of these won't arrive in January, although there may not be many names left on their shortlist by the time summer rolls around.
