Man Utd transfer news: Rashford dealt big blow as Barcelona boss makes decision

Manchester United are stepping things up as the January transfer window reaches the halfway point.

United have not yet made any new signings this month, but spending is expected in the coming days, with Marcus Rashford the most likely departure. Rashford has not played for United since the 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League last month after being knocked out by Ruben Amorim.

Rashford has admitted he wants a “new challenge” and a number of clubs are hoping to sign the forward this month. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumors from Old Trafford…

Rashford's AC Milan punch

AC Milan's decision to sign Rashford has been questioned after Noah Okafor's move to RB Leipzig fell through.

Milan were hoping to sign the wantaway striker on loan and wanted to free up space in their squad by selling Okafor to Leipzig. Okafor would be loaned out for the remainder of the season, with the deal expected to be worth around €25 million in the summer.

However, Sky Sports Germany reports that Leipzig have pulled the plug after Okafor failed his medical after being out of action in recent weeks due to a calf problem. And that seems to be bad news for Rashford.

The Barcelona boss is calling

Barcelona could benefit, with Spanish outlet Sport reporting that manager Hansi Flick has 'endorsed' a move for Rashford.

Rashford's representatives are said to have met with club officials to discuss a move to Spain and the report states that Flick is a fan of the striker's versatility, having previously tried to sign him when he was in charge of Bayern Munich.

However, it is claimed that Flick's views are not shared by everyone at the club and there is some debate over whether Rashford is the type of striker Barcelona should want to sign this month.

Bayern wants Mainoo

According to a report from the Sun, Bayern Munich are interested in signing United star Kobbie Mainoo.

United are in talks with the midfielder about a pay rise. Mainoo currently earns £20,000 a week but is rumored to earn £200,000 a week and the Red Devils are reluctant to meet those demands.

Chelsea are said to be waiting in the wings if a new deal cannot be agreed and the report claims Bayern are also 'planning to make a move'. The Bundesliga giants have been admirers of the 19-year-old for years.
