Barcelona will adjust its transfer strategy in the January transfer window, following confrontational talks between sporting director Deco and central defender Ronald Araujo. With the Uruguayan believed to be closer to a stay at Barcelona, this will have implications elsewhere in the squad.
According to Sport, both Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen will be made available for a transfer in January. Barcelona won't look to take out either player, but they do hope to strengthen their attack in January, and with neither Garcia nor Christensen likely to feature often in the second half of the season, Barcelona could look to take advantage of that. .
Girona remain interested in bringing back Garcia after a successful loan spell, while contacts have been made with Manchester United over Andreas Christensen in recent months. The Catalan club say Barcelona need to secure at least €6.5 million to potentially sign Marcus Rashford from United, Hansi Flick's preferred option to strengthen his frontline. Barcelona are also said to be open to losing Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati, but neither have shown signs of leaving so far.
So far this season, Garcia has been used sparingly in Barcelona's backline, but Flick has deployed him as an option off the bench in midfield. Before it looked like Araujo would leave, Barcelona had reportedly agreed a €10 million deal with Girona for the Catalan defender. Christensen, on the other hand, could return to action this weekend, Flick noted on Tuesday, but has not played since the second game of the season due to injury.
