Juventus to give up on Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo despite readying €50m offer

Barcelona have had everything in store this past week, with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor given temporary permission to return to action, followed by victories over Athletic Club and Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. Now it looks like they can keep star defender Ronald Araujo.

The Uruguayan looked set to celebrate his latest Blaugrana victory, and on Tuesday night he was set to leave the club for Juventus. But after discussions with Barcelona sporting director Deco, Araujo has reportedly decided to stay at Barcelona.

According to Relevo, Juventus had a €50 million offer ready for Araujo, which they wanted to send to Barcelona this week. Manager Thiago Motta was even in discussions with Araujo about the move in recent days. However, after Araujo's turnaround, the Bianconeri will not sustain this move and will turn their attention elsewhere.

Arsenal have also been linked with Araujo in recent weeks, and that interest is likely to remain on the back burner in the coming months until the centre-back's contract situation is resolved. Araujo's current contract expires in 2026 and Barcelona are looking to extend it or try to sell him this summer. After signing a team-friendly deal in 2022, Araujo has the right to seek a star contract this time around.
